Free Image Editor provides you with basic editing functionality to correct and improve your digital images in a simple and effective way. The program works seamlessly with all of the most popular image file types, such as TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WMF, including RAW formats from various camera makes and models. But the program’s main asset is its versatility when it comes to image capture capabilities.

Despite the program’s editing functionality may seem a bit limited in scope (remember, however, that this is a free tool), this Image Editor provides a high level of flexibility when it comes to how images are loaded for editing. While similar tools merely allow you to load existing image files into the program, this application also allows you to grab screenshots of your desktop or of any active window, to create and load snapshots from any playing video, or to acquire new images through your scanner. The entire image acquisition process is performed within the program itself, including whatever steps are needed to import images from your scanner.

On the editing side, however, this free utility is far from being a “professional graphic design studio”, as defined on the developer’s website. The set of brushes, filters, and other tools provided are somehow limited, though they cover all the most popular editing functions very nicely. Thus, it allows you to rotate and flip your images, to equalize them automatically, to apply some creative filters and effects, to resize them, and to remove unwanted objects and blemishes. Much more complete than Microsoft’s Paint, though far from a professional tool like Photoshop, this Free Image Editor provides you with enough functionality to acquire, create, and enhance image files in a simple and rewarding way.
